wrthug

Also known asWrtHug

WrtHug is the name given by SecurityScorecard to a campaign involving the compromise of thousands of Asus routers, primarily older unsupported models. The activity is attributed to a suspected China-state threat group. Based on the reporting, the compromised routers are believed to be used as part of an ORB (operational relay box) network, consistent with covert espionage and identity obfuscation rather than overt disruptive activity. Most affected devices were located in Taiwan, with additional clusters observed in South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Russia, central Europe, and the United States. The attackers' specific post-compromise actions remain unknown. No aliases or sub-groups beyond the name WrtHug are directly identified in the provided content.
