Insufficiently Protected Credentials in Kibana CrowdStrike Connector

IdentifiersCVE-2025-37728CWE-522· Insufficiently Protected Credentials

CVE-2025-37728 is an insufficiently protected credentials vulnerability affecting the Kibana CrowdStrike connector. Cached CrowdStrike credentials associated with a connector are not adequately isolated between Kibana spaces. As a result, a malicious user who has access to one Kibana space can create and run a CrowdStrike connector in that space and retrieve cached CrowdStrike credentials belonging to a CrowdStrike connector configured in another space. The issue is described by Elastic as credential leakage caused by insufficient protection of stored or cached connector credentials across space boundaries.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can expose CrowdStrike credentials cached by the Kibana CrowdStrike connector to an unauthorized user in a different Kibana space. This can result in compromise of the confidentiality of those credentials and may enable unauthorized access to CrowdStrike-integrated resources, actions through the affected connector, and follow-on abuse depending on the privileges associated with the leaked credentials.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

No workaround is available according to Elastic. If immediate upgrade is not possible, the information currently available does not provide an endorsed mitigation beyond limiting access to Kibana spaces and CrowdStrike connector usage until patched, but the vendor-stated remediation is to upgrade promptly.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Kibana to a fixed release. Elastic's advisory lists the patched versions as 8.18.8, 8.19.5, 9.0.8, and 9.1.5, depending on the deployed release branch. Apply the vendor update as soon as possible to prevent cross-space access to cached CrowdStrike connector credentials.
