Kernel UDP socket interface binding logic flaw in Apple operating systems

IdentifiersCVE-2025-43359CWE-670· Always-Incorrect Control Flow…

CVE-2025-43359 is a kernel logic issue in Apple operating systems in which a UDP server socket that is intended to be bound only to a local interface may instead become bound to all interfaces. Apple states the issue was addressed through improved state management. Based on the advisory text, the flaw affects socket/interface binding state handling in the kernel networking stack, causing the effective exposure of a UDP listener to expand beyond the interface originally specified by the application.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

The primary impact is unintended network exposure. A service that should only listen on a local or otherwise restricted interface may become reachable on all interfaces, potentially exposing the UDP service to additional local networks, untrusted adjacent networks, or the public internet depending on host connectivity and firewall posture. This can weaken network segmentation assumptions, broaden the attack surface of the affected application, and enable follow-on attacks against services that operators or developers believed were interface-restricted.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patched, reduce exposure by enforcing host-based and network firewall rules that explicitly restrict UDP service reachability to intended source networks and interfaces, avoid relying solely on application-level interface binding for access control, disable or stop unnecessary UDP listeners, and monitor for unexpected listening exposure on non-intended interfaces.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply the vendor fixes provided by Apple. Apple reports this issue is fixed in iOS 18.7 and iPadOS 18.7, iOS 26 and iPadOS 26, macOS Sequoia 15.7, macOS Sonoma 14.8, macOS Tahoe 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, and watchOS 26.
