Stored XSS in Juniper Networks Junos Space

IdentifiersCVE-2025-59978CWE-79· Improper Neutralization of Input…

CVE-2025-59978 is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in Juniper Networks Junos Space caused by improper neutralization of user-supplied input during web page generation. Junos Space fails to adequately sanitize and/or output-encode attacker-controlled data stored in application data fields within the management interface. An attacker can inject script tags or equivalent malicious JavaScript payloads into stored content, which is later rendered in the Junos Space web UI. When another user, particularly an administrative user, views the affected page, the payload executes in the context of that user’s browser session and inherits that user’s privileges. The issue affects all Junos Space versions prior to 24.1R4.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows execution of attacker-supplied JavaScript in the browser session of a user viewing the malicious content. If the victim is an administrator, the attacker can act with administrative permissions in Junos Space, including session hijacking, credential theft, unauthorized administrative actions, and potential manipulation of managed network infrastructure through the platform’s privileged management functions.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate upgrade is not possible, reduce exposure by restricting access to the Junos Space management interface to trusted administrators only, minimizing the set of users permitted to create or modify content fields rendered in the web UI, and monitoring for suspicious or unexpected script content in application data fields. Because this is a stored XSS issue that triggers when malicious content is viewed, limiting administrative exposure to untrusted data and enforcing strict administrative access controls can reduce risk until patching is completed.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Juniper Networks Junos Space to version 24.1R4 or later. The provided content states that Juniper addressed CVE-2025-59978 in 24.1R4.
