Out-of-bounds read in Apple Audio allowing kernel memory disclosure

IdentifiersCVE-2025-43361CWE-125· Out-of-bounds Read

CVE-2025-43361 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in Apple's Audio component. Apple states that the issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. A malicious app may be able to trigger the flaw to read kernel memory. The vulnerability affects multiple Apple platforms, including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Sequoia 15.7.2, macOS Sonoma 14.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, and watchOS 26.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation may allow a malicious local application to disclose kernel memory. Kernel memory disclosure can expose sensitive in-memory data and potentially aid further exploitation by leaking information useful for bypassing exploit mitigations or understanding kernel state.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, reduce exposure by limiting installation and execution of untrusted or unnecessary applications, enforcing application allowlisting and MDM controls where available, and restricting local app execution to trusted software only. Because Apple describes the attacker as a malicious app, mitigation is primarily focused on preventing untrusted code from running on the device until updates can be applied.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply the vendor-provided updates that fix the issue with improved bounds checking: iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Sequoia 15.7.2, macOS Sonoma 14.8.2, macOS Tahoe 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, or watchOS 26, as applicable to the affected device.
