WebAuthn credential cross-origin claim in Apple Authentication Services

IdentifiersCVE-2025-24180CWE-346

CVE-2025-24180 is an Authentication Services vulnerability fixed in Safari 18.4, visionOS 2.4, iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4. According to Apple, a malicious website may be able to claim WebAuthn credentials from another website that shares a registrable suffix. The issue was addressed with improved input validation. Based on the vendor description, the flaw involves insufficient validation of origin or relying-party context during WebAuthn credential handling, allowing a site under the same registrable suffix to improperly claim credentials associated with a different site.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation could allow a malicious website to obtain or misuse WebAuthn credentials intended for another website under the same registrable suffix. This undermines WebAuthn origin isolation and can result in unauthorized authentication against the victim site, enabling account compromise or impersonation depending on how the affected credentials are used.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patches are deployed, reduce exposure by avoiding WebAuthn registration or authentication flows on untrusted or less-trusted sites that share a registrable suffix with sensitive services, and by minimizing shared-suffix hosting arrangements for security-sensitive web properties where possible. Standard user-side mitigations are limited because the issue is in platform handling of WebAuthn credentials.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply the vendor fixes by updating affected platforms to Safari 18.4, visionOS 2.4, iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4, or macOS Sequoia 15.4, as applicable. Apple states the issue was resolved through improved input validation.
