Information Disclosure in alf.io API User Endpoint

IdentifiersCVE-2024-25635CWE-200

In alf.io versions prior to 2.0-M4-2402, the /admin/api/users/<user_id> endpoint allows organization owners to access sensitive information about other organization owners, including their API keys and user details. The vulnerability arises from insufficient access control on the endpoint, permitting unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Attackers with organization owner privileges can enumerate user IDs and retrieve sensitive information, including API keys, of other organization owners. This can lead to unauthorized access to APIs, privilege escalation, and compromise of organizational data.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Restrict access to the /admin/api/users/<user_id> endpoint at the network or application level until the patch can be applied. Monitor for suspicious access patterns and rotate any potentially exposed API keys.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade alf.io to version 2.0-M4-2402 or later, where access controls on the /admin/api/users/<user_id> endpoint have been corrected to prevent unauthorized information disclosure.
