Use-After-Free in Adobe Animate

IdentifiersCVE-2025-54279CWE-416· Use After Free

CVE-2025-54279 is a use-after-free vulnerability affecting Adobe Animate versions 23.0.13, 24.0.10, and earlier. The flaw can be triggered when a user opens a maliciously crafted file, leading to memory corruption and potentially allowing arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user. Adobe identifies this issue as one of several memory-safety vulnerabilities addressed in Animate, and the affected product versions were updated in APSB25-97.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation could result in arbitrary code execution in the security context of the logged-in user. As a memory-corruption issue in a client-side content-processing application, this may allow compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system, subject to the privileges of the current user.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Primary mitigation is prompt patching to Adobe Animate 23.0.15 or 24.0.12 or later. Until updates can be applied, reduce exposure by avoiding opening untrusted or unsolicited Animate files and limiting user interaction with files from unverified sources, since exploitation requires a victim to open a malicious file.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Adobe's security update for Adobe Animate. Adobe indicates that the issue is fixed in Adobe Animate 23.0.15 (2023) and 24.0.12 (2024) for Windows and macOS. Systems running affected earlier versions, including 23.0.13 and 24.0.10 and earlier, should be upgraded to the patched releases via the Creative Cloud Desktop app or Adobe Admin Console.
