Command Injection in Gardyn Home Kit

IdentifiersCVE-2025-29631CWE-78· Improper Neutralization of Special…

CVE-2025-29631 is a command injection vulnerability affecting Gardyn Home Kit firmware before master.619, the Home Kit Mobile Application before 2.11.0, and the Home Kit Cloud API before 2.12.2026. According to the provided content, vulnerable methods fail to sanitize attacker-controlled input before passing it to the operating system for execution. This unsafe handling of input can allow crafted data to be interpreted as operating system commands, resulting in arbitrary command execution on a target Home Kit system.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary operating system commands on the target Gardyn Home Kit. Depending on the privileges of the vulnerable component, this can lead to full remote code execution on the device, unauthorized manipulation of device behavior, access to sensitive data processed or stored by the system, and potential follow-on actions such as persistence or lateral movement within the local environment.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, reduce exposure of the Home Kit Cloud API and related management interfaces to only trusted users and networks, restrict or disable any functionality that passes user-controlled input to system-level command execution paths, and monitor for anomalous command execution or unexpected process creation on affected Home Kit systems. Network segmentation and least-privilege execution for affected services can reduce impact if exploitation occurs.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade affected components to fixed versions: Gardyn Home Kit firmware master.619 or later, Home Kit Mobile Application 2.11.0 or later, and Home Kit Cloud API 2.12.2026 or later. The underlying issue should be remediated by ensuring all input reaching OS command execution paths is properly sanitized or, preferably, by eliminating shell invocation and using safe parameterized APIs or allowlisted command handling.
