Stored XSS in Dive Mermaid renderer leading to RCE via malicious MCP server config

IdentifiersCVE-2025-66580CWE-94· Improper Control of Generation of…

Dive (an open-source MCP Host Desktop Application) versions prior to 0.11.1 contain a critical stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Mermaid diagram rendering component. The renderer permits execution of arbitrary JavaScript via the javascript: URI scheme. An attacker can leverage this to inject a malicious Model Context Protocol (MCP) server configuration; when a victim clicks the affected Mermaid node, the injected JavaScript executes and can trigger remote code execution (RCE) on the victim machine. The issue is fixed in Dive 0.11.1.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation enables arbitrary JavaScript execution in the application context and can be chained into remote code execution on the victim’s machine when the user clicks the malicious Mermaid node. This results in high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until upgrading, reduce exposure to untrusted Mermaid content and untrusted MCP server configurations; avoid interacting (clicking) on Mermaid diagram nodes originating from untrusted sources, since exploitation is triggered on node click.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Dive to version 0.11.1 or later, which fixes the Mermaid rendering issue that allowed javascript: execution.
