Stack-based Buffer Overflow in Tenda AC18 /goform/SetDlnaCfg

IdentifiersCVE-2025-14993CWE-121· Stack-based Buffer Overflow

CVE-2025-14993 is a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the Tenda AC18 router, firmware version 15.03.05.05. The vulnerability exists in the sprintf function within the /goform/SetDlnaCfg HTTP request handler, where improper handling of the 'scanList' argument allows an attacker to overflow the stack buffer. This can be triggered by sending a specially crafted HTTP request with a maliciously long 'scanList' parameter, leading to memory corruption and potential arbitrary code execution.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on the device, potentially leading to full compromise of the router. This includes loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability, as attackers may gain control over network traffic, device configuration, and persistence on the device.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Restrict access to the /goform/SetDlnaCfg endpoint by limiting network exposure (e.g., firewall rules, network segmentation). Monitor network traffic for suspicious or anomalous requests targeting this endpoint. Disable unnecessary services if possible until a patch is applied.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Update the Tenda AC18 router to the latest firmware version provided by the vendor that addresses this vulnerability. Apply any official patches as soon as they are available. Regularly check for firmware updates from Tenda.
