Double Free in Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Power Build Rapsody

IdentifiersCVE-2025-13844CWE-415· Double Free

CVE-2025-13844 is a double free vulnerability in Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Power Build Rapsody. The flaw is triggered when an end user imports a malicious attacker-supplied project file in SSD format into Rapsody. The double free condition can corrupt heap memory during file processing, leading to unstable application state and memory corruption. Publicly provided material does not identify the specific vulnerable function, but the issue is explicitly tied to import handling of malicious SSD project files in Rapsody.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can cause heap memory corruption in the Rapsody process. Based on the published CVSS v3.1 vector (C:L/I:L/A:L), the expected impact includes limited compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability, such as application instability, crashes, or corruption of processed data. The advisory specifically states heap memory corruption; unlike the related CVE-2025-13845, the provided source material does not explicitly confirm remote code execution for CVE-2025-13844.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, only open/import project files from trusted sources and perform malware scanning on externally created project files before opening them in Rapsody. More generally, follow CISA ICS guidance by minimizing exposure of control system assets, isolating networks, and using secure remote access methods, though the direct exploit path for this CVE is malicious file import with user interaction.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade EcoStruxure Power Build Rapsody to a fixed version provided by Schneider Electric. The advisory lists fixed versions for affected regional releases including FR 2.8.1.0401, INT 2.8.6.200, ES 2.8.5.0301, BEL(NL) 2.8.3.0201, and BEL(FR) 2.8.8.0201. Schneider Electric also states that the service should be restarted after installing the fixed version.
