WebKit denial-of-service in Apple Safari, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, WebKitGTK, and WPE WebKit

IdentifiersCVE-2026-20652CWE-400· Uncontrolled Resource Consumption

CVE-2026-20652 is a WebKit memory-handling vulnerability. Apple states the issue was addressed with improved memory handling, and multiple advisories describe the impact as a remote attacker being able to cause a denial-of-service. Related Apple and downstream WebKitGTK/WPE WebKit advisories indicate that the flaw can be triggered remotely, including via maliciously crafted web content, resulting in an unexpected process crash or denial-of-service condition. The issue is referenced in WebKit Bugzilla as 303959 and was credited to Nathaniel Oh (@calysteon). Affected products include WebKitGTK and WPE WebKit before 2.50.6, and Apple platforms prior to the fixed releases Safari 26.3, iOS 18.7.5, iPadOS 18.7.5, iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, macOS Tahoe 26.3, and visionOS 26.3.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows a remote attacker to crash the affected WebKit process or otherwise trigger a denial-of-service condition. In practical terms, this can disrupt browsing sessions or application functionality that embeds or relies on WebKit. The provided content does not indicate code execution, privilege escalation, or data disclosure for this CVE.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

No specific workaround is provided in the supplied advisories beyond updating. Until patches can be applied, reduce exposure to untrusted web content, limit use of affected WebKit-based applications for high-risk browsing, and prefer network and application controls that restrict attacker-supplied content from reaching vulnerable clients.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply the vendor fixes. Apple indicates the issue is fixed in Safari 26.3, iOS 18.7.5, iPadOS 18.7.5, iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, macOS Tahoe 26.3, and visionOS 26.3. For Linux and embedded consumers, update WebKitGTK and WPE WebKit to version 2.50.6 or later. Standard remediation is to deploy the latest stable WebKit-based packages provided by the OS or application vendor.
