DoS via crafted RPC parsing in Snort 3 detection engine (Cisco products)

IdentifiersCVE-2026-20068CWE-754

Multiple Cisco products are affected by a vulnerability in the Snort 3 detection engine that can be triggered by crafted remote procedure call (RPC) traffic. The issue is described as incomplete error checking while parsing RPC data; an unauthenticated remote attacker can send crafted RPC packets over an established connection such that Snort 3 parses the data and encounters an error condition that causes the Snort 3 Detection Engine to unexpectedly restart, interrupting packet inspection.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation causes the Snort 3 Detection Engine to restart, resulting in a denial-of-service condition characterized by interruption of packet inspection/traffic analysis on affected Cisco products using Snort 3.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.
