Improper TLS Certificate Validation in FortiAnalyzer and FortiManager SSO

IdentifiersCVE-2025-68482CWE-295· Improper Certificate Validation

CVE-2025-68482 is an improper certificate validation vulnerability affecting Fortinet FortiAnalyzer and FortiManager. The provided content states that the issue occurs during initial SSO authentication in the FortiManager GUI and is classified as improper TLS certificate validation (CWE-295). Affected versions are FortiAnalyzer 7.6.0 through 7.6.4, 7.4.0 through 7.4.8, all 7.2 versions, all 7.0 versions, and all 6.4 versions; and FortiManager 7.6.0 through 7.6.4, 7.4.0 through 7.4.8, all 7.2 versions, all 7.0 versions, and all 6.4 versions. Because certificate validation is not properly enforced, a remote unauthenticated attacker positioned as a man-in-the-middle can interfere with the SSO/TLS trust process and expose confidential information.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

A successful attack allows a remote unauthenticated adversary conducting a man-in-the-middle attack to view confidential information. The supporting content also indicates the flaw could enable interception or manipulation of the SSO authentication process, which may compromise the confidentiality and integrity of authentication-related exchanges between the user and the affected management platform.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patches are applied, reduce exposure of the GUI and SSO authentication path to untrusted networks, use trusted management networks only, and minimize opportunities for man-in-the-middle positioning. Monitor authentication and SSO-related logs for anomalous behavior and validate certificate trust paths in the deployment. If operationally feasible, temporarily disable or restrict affected SSO workflows until remediation is complete.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade FortiAnalyzer and FortiManager to a vendor-fixed release as provided by Fortinet. Administrators should review the Fortinet PSIRT advisory for CVE-2025-68482 / FG-IR-26-078 and verify installed versions against the affected version ranges. Priority should be given to systems using SSO in exposed or untrusted network paths.
