Unauthenticated OS Command Injection RCE in com_mb24sysapi

IdentifiersCVE-2026-32968CWE-78· Improper Neutralization of Special…

CVE-2026-32968 is an OS command injection vulnerability in the com_mb24sysapi module caused by improper neutralization of special elements used in an operating system command. The issue allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to supply crafted input that is incorporated into OS command execution without sufficient sanitization, leading to remote code execution. The available reporting describes this issue as a variant attack of CVE-2020-10383. Successful exploitation can result in full compromise of the affected system.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated remote code execution over the network and can lead to full system compromise. Based on the provided CVSS v3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H), the impact is high across confidentiality, integrity, and availability, enabling an attacker to access sensitive data, modify system state, and disrupt or take complete control of the affected host.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If an official patch cannot be applied immediately, restrict network access to systems exposing the vulnerable com_mb24sysapi module, especially from untrusted networks. Disable or isolate the affected functionality where feasible, place the service behind access controls or filtering, and monitor for suspicious command execution activity. Additional hardening should include running the affected component with the least privileges possible to reduce the impact of exploitation.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply the vendor-provided fix or updated version for the affected com_mb24sysapi module as referenced by the associated CERT VDE advisories VDE-2026-024 and VDE-2026-025. Because the flaw is an OS command injection issue, remediation should ensure that untrusted input is never passed to shell or OS command interpreters without strict validation, escaping, or redesign to avoid shell invocation entirely.
