Path Traversal Arbitrary File Write in Stackfield Desktop App

IdentifiersCVE-2026-28373CWE-22· Improper Limitation of a Pathname…

CVE-2026-28373 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Stackfield Desktop App before version 1.10.2 on macOS and Windows. The flaw is present in certain decryption functionality that processes the filePath property. Insufficient validation or sanitization of attacker-controlled path data allows a malicious export to traverse directories and cause arbitrary content to be written to attacker-chosen locations on the victim filesystem.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to write arbitrary files to any path accessible to the application on the victim system. This can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability by overwriting existing files, planting malicious content, modifying application or user data, and potentially achieving code execution depending on what files can be targeted and how the written content is later used or executed.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patched, avoid opening or importing untrusted or externally supplied Stackfield exports. Restrict use of the desktop application to trusted data sources, limit filesystem permissions available to the application and user account, and monitor for unexpected file creation or modification in sensitive paths. Application allowlisting and endpoint protections may reduce follow-on impact from malicious files written to disk.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade the Stackfield Desktop App to version 1.10.2 or later on affected macOS and Windows systems. The vulnerable decryption/export-processing logic should ensure that filePath values are strictly validated, canonicalized, and constrained to an intended destination directory before any write occurs.
