SSRF in Spring AI BedrockProxyChatModel via unvalidated media URL fetching

IdentifiersCVE-2026-22742CWE-918· Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)

CVE-2026-22742 is a server-side request forgery vulnerability in Spring AI's spring-ai-bedrock-converse component, specifically in BedrockProxyChatModel. The flaw occurs when the component processes multimodal messages containing user-supplied media URLs. Due to insufficient validation of those URLs, the application can be induced to fetch attacker-controlled or otherwise unintended URLs, causing the server to issue HTTP requests to internal or external destinations on the attacker's behalf. The issue affects Spring AI versions 1.0.0 through 1.0.4 and 1.1.0 through 1.1.3.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to trigger server-originated HTTP requests to unintended destinations. This can expose internal network resources to probing or access, enable interaction with otherwise unreachable internal services, and disclose sensitive information reachable from the vulnerable server's network context. The published CVSS v3.1 vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:N/A:N, indicating high confidentiality impact with no required privileges or user interaction.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

No specific vendor workaround is provided in the available content. Until patches can be applied, do not allow untrusted user-supplied media URLs in multimodal messages processed by BedrockProxyChatModel. Additionally, restrict outbound network access from affected services where possible, especially access to internal address space, metadata endpoints, and other sensitive internal or cloud-hosted services.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Spring AI spring-ai-bedrock-converse to a fixed release: 1.0.5 or later on the 1.0.x branch, or 1.1.4 or later on the 1.1.x branch. Review the Spring security advisory for CVE-2026-22742 and ensure all affected deployments are updated accordingly.
