CVE-2026-20186 is a critical authenticated remote command injection vulnerability in Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE). The flaw is caused by insufficient validation of user-supplied input in the Cisco ISE web management interface. An attacker with at least Read Only Admin credentials can send a crafted HTTP request to an affected ISE device and execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system. Successful exploitation can provide initial user-level OS access and then enable privilege escalation to root. Cisco’s published information indicates the issue is network exploitable, requires no user interaction, and affects Cisco ISE broadly regardless of configuration, with Cisco ISE Passive Identity Connector not affected. Successful exploitation allows an authenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary operating system commands on the affected Cisco ISE node, compromise the appliance at the OS level, and escalate privileges to root. This can result in full compromise of the ISE node, including high-impact confidentiality, integrity, and availability consequences. Because ISE is a central network access control and policy platform, compromise could enable manipulation of access policies and broader operational impact. In single-node ISE deployments, exploitation can cause the node to become unavailable, creating a denial-of-service condition in which endpoints that have not already authenticated cannot access the network until the node is restored.
