Authentication Bypass in Microsoft SSO Plugin for Jira & Confluence

IdentifiersCVE-2026-41103CWE-303· Incorrect Implementation of…

CVE-2026-41103 is a critical elevation of privilege vulnerability in the Microsoft SSO Plugin for Jira & Confluence, specifically affecting the Microsoft Confluence SAML SSO plugin and the Microsoft JIRA SAML SSO plugin. The flaw is caused by an incorrect implementation of the authentication algorithm. Available reporting indicates exploitation is possible during the login flow by sending a specially crafted SSO/SAML response that causes the plugin to accept a forged identity without properly authenticating the user through Microsoft Entra ID. As a result, the attacker can bypass authentication and sign in as a valid user.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an unauthorized remote attacker to impersonate an existing valid user and obtain access to Jira or Confluence with that user’s effective permissions. This can expose sensitive data and permit unauthorized modification of content or administrative actions, depending on the privileges of the impersonated account. Reported CVSS characteristics indicate high confidentiality and integrity impact, with no direct availability impact.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patches are fully deployed, reduce exposure by restricting access to Jira and Confluence login endpoints to trusted networks where feasible, closely monitoring authentication logs for anomalous SSO logins or unexpected account activity, and limiting high-privilege accounts in the affected applications. Additional general hardening noted in supporting content includes enforcing MFA, removing legacy authentication where applicable, and strengthening access controls, though the primary mitigation is patching.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Microsoft's security update for CVE-2026-41103 to affected Microsoft SSO Plugin for Jira & Confluence deployments, including the Microsoft Confluence SAML SSO plugin and Microsoft JIRA SAML SSO plugin. Upgrade to the vendor-fixed version referenced by Microsoft’s advisory and validate that SSO authentication flows correctly enforce Entra ID-backed identity verification after patching.
