Privilege Escalation in Azure Logic Apps

IdentifiersCVE-2026-42823CWE-284· Improper Access Control

CVE-2026-42823 is an improper access control vulnerability in Azure Logic Apps. According to Microsoft, the flaw allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges over a network. The available information indicates the issue stems from insufficient enforcement of access restrictions within the Azure Logic Apps service, enabling a low-privileged authenticated actor to gain permissions beyond those intended. Microsoft classifies the issue as an elevation-of-privilege vulnerability and assigns CVSS v3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H, indicating network reachability, low attack complexity, no user interaction, and high impact across confidentiality, integrity, and availability with changed scope.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated attacker with low privileges to elevate privileges within or through Azure Logic Apps and affect resources beyond the original security boundary. Based on the published CVSS vector and Microsoft advisory language, exploitation can result in high-impact compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability, potentially enabling unauthorized access to data, unauthorized modification of workflows or connected resources, and disruption of service operations.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Monitor Azure Service Health notifications for notices related to CVE-2026-42823 and review the associated guidance in the Azure portal. Microsoft states that affected customers will receive specific mitigation instructions and required actions, and can reference Tracking ID 1P8-C0G for applicable guidance and remediation steps. Until remediation is confirmed, restrict unnecessary privileges and review access controls for Logic Apps-associated identities and connected resources where feasible.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply the Microsoft-provided fix for CVE-2026-42823. For affected Azure Logic Apps resources, follow the vendor guidance delivered through Azure Service Health notifications. Microsoft states that impacted organizations will receive service-specific instructions and that the Security Updates table for this CVE may be updated with additional information as it becomes available.
