Sandbox escape in Chrome Skia on Android

IdentifiersCVE-2026-9892CWE-693

CVE-2026-9892 is an inappropriate implementation flaw in the Skia component of Google Chrome on Android prior to 148.0.7778.216. According to the provided advisory, a remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process can leverage a crafted HTML page to potentially escape Chrome's sandbox. The issue is described by Chromium as critical severity. The available information does not identify a specific vulnerable function, but it places the flaw in Skia and characterizes it as an implementation weakness enabling a post-renderer-compromise sandbox boundary bypass.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker who already achieved code execution or equivalent control within the renderer process to break out of Chrome's Android sandbox. This would permit escalation from a renderer compromise to broader browser or underlying system compromise, reducing the effectiveness of Chrome's process isolation and enabling follow-on actions beyond the renderer's intended restrictions.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Google Chrome on Android to version 148.0.7778.216 or later. More generally, deploy the latest Chrome 148.0.7778.x stable build made available by Google, as the vendor is withholding detailed bug information until users are patched.
