Public Exposure of Telemetry Data via Misconfigured Cloud Storage Containers

IdentifiersCVE-2026-49193CWE-200· Exposure of Sensitive Information…

CVE-2026-49193 is an information exposure vulnerability caused by overly permissive configuration settings on cloud storage containers. The issue allows active telemetry information stored in affected cloud storage resources to be exposed publicly to the internet. Based on the available information, the root cause is misconfiguration of storage access controls rather than a memory corruption or code execution flaw. The published CVE metadata indicates network-based exploitation, low attack complexity, no privileges required, and no user interaction, consistent with unauthenticated public access to exposed telemetry data.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows unauthorized parties on the internet to access exposed active telemetry information. The available scoring and description indicate a high confidentiality impact, with no stated integrity or availability impact. Depending on the telemetry content, exposed data could reveal operational details, monitoring outputs, device or service status, usage patterns, or other sensitive environmental information that could support reconnaissance or further targeting.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Immediately restrict access permissions on affected cloud storage containers, disable public or anonymous read access where enabled, and review storage access policies to ensure telemetry data is not publicly accessible. As an interim measure, continuously monitor for publicly exposed storage resources, rotate any credentials or tokens that may have been disclosed through telemetry, and minimize sensitive content retained in externally reachable storage locations.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Correct the affected cloud storage container configuration to remove public internet exposure of telemetry information. Apply least-privilege access controls, ensure containers or buckets are not anonymously readable unless explicitly required, and review storage policies and ACLs to restrict access to authorized principals only. Validate that telemetry data is stored in non-public containers and audit existing cloud storage configurations for similar exposure.
