ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can allow an attacker to read arbitrary files from the local file system and access sensitive files or directories outside the intended boundaries enforced by the application. This can expose confidential local data available to the user context in which Dreamweaver is running. The provided CVSS vector also indicates changed scope and high confidentiality impact.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until the Adobe fix is applied, avoid opening untrusted, unsolicited, or externally supplied files in Dreamweaver Desktop. Restrict handling of Dreamweaver project/content files to trusted sources only, and use standard endpoint controls such as attachment screening and user awareness measures to reduce the likelihood that a victim opens a malicious file.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Adobe Dreamweaver Desktop to a vendor-fixed version newer than 21.7, as provided by Adobe in its security advisory APSB26-62. Apply the official Adobe security update as soon as it is available in the deployment environment.
