Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Annotation Use-After-Free Remote Code Execution

IdentifiersCVE-2026-47919CWE-416· Use After Free

CVE-2026-47919 is a use-after-free vulnerability in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC affecting versions 24.001.30365, 26.001.21651, and earlier. The flaw exists in the handling of Annotation objects, where the application fails to properly validate that an object still exists before performing operations on it. This memory-safety error can be triggered by a crafted malicious document, and the available advisory context also notes possible exploitation via a malicious page. Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user/process.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user. Given the CVSS vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H), impact includes potential full compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability for data and resources accessible to that user account. If the user has elevated privileges, the resulting impact may be greater.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patches are fully deployed, reduce exposure by preventing users from opening untrusted PDF files or other untrusted documents, and avoid visiting untrusted content that could invoke Acrobat Reader document handling. Use least-privilege user accounts and apply document-handling restrictions or attachment filtering where possible.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Adobe's security update referenced in APSB26-63. Upgrade Adobe Acrobat Reader DC to a version newer than 24.001.30365 and 26.001.21651, as those versions and earlier are affected.
