Remote Code Execution via License Deserialization in Sonatype Nexus Repository 3

IdentifiersCVE-2026-10748CWE-502· Deserialization of Untrusted Data

CVE-2026-10748 is a high-severity authenticated remote code execution vulnerability in Sonatype Nexus Repository 3 affecting versions before 3.92.0. According to the provided content, an authenticated user who has the nx-licensing-create privilege can upload a specially crafted license file, which results in arbitrary operating system command execution as the Nexus process user. The provided context explicitly characterizes the issue as occurring via license deserialization, indicating unsafe handling of attacker-controlled serialized data during license file processing.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated attacker with the required privilege to execute arbitrary operating system commands in the security context of the Nexus Repository process user. This can lead to full compromise of the Nexus application instance, unauthorized access to repository data, tampering with hosted artifacts, theft of credentials or configuration data accessible to the process, installation of persistence mechanisms, and potential pivoting to the underlying host or adjacent systems depending on the privileges and environment of the Nexus process account.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until remediation is completed, restrict assignment of the nx-licensing-create privilege to the minimum necessary set of trusted administrators, review and reduce accounts that can upload license files, and monitor or temporarily disable license upload functionality where operationally feasible. Increase auditing around administrative actions and license file uploads to detect attempted exploitation.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Sonatype Nexus Repository 3 to version 3.92.0 or later. Apply Sonatype-provided patches or vendor security advisories immediately for all affected deployments. Validate that all Nexus Repository 3 instances are no longer running versions prior to 3.92.0.
