UXSS in Google Chrome Views on Linux

IdentifiersCVE-2026-12463CWE-79

CVE-2026-12463 is a high-severity inappropriate implementation vulnerability in the Views component of Google Chrome on Linux prior to 149.0.7827.155. According to the provided advisory, a remote attacker who had already compromised the renderer process could, via a crafted HTML page, inject arbitrary scripts or HTML and achieve universal cross-site scripting (UXSS). The issue is described by Chromium as an inappropriate implementation flaw in Views rather than a memory-safety bug. The available information does not identify a specific vulnerable function.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows arbitrary script or HTML injection in the browser context as a UXSS condition. This can enable bypass of normal same-origin browser security boundaries, execution of attacker-controlled script in unintended origins, unauthorized actions in authenticated web sessions, exposure of sensitive web data, and potential session compromise. The flaw is also relevant as a post-renderer-compromise primitive that could be used in exploit chains to expand impact beyond the renderer sandbox.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

No specific temporary workaround is provided in the supplied advisories. Practical mitigation is to update affected browsers promptly. Where immediate patching is not possible, reduce exposure by limiting use of untrusted web content, applying browser isolation or similar defense-in-depth controls, and monitoring for outdated Chrome/Chromium/Edge deployments.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Google Chrome on Linux to version 149.0.7827.155 or later. For downstream Chromium-based products, apply the corresponding vendor fixes; the provided content notes Microsoft Edge is fixed in version 149.0.4022.80 and Debian Chromium packages are fixed in 149.0.7827.155-1~deb13u1 for Debian 13 and 149.0.7827.155-1~deb12u1 for Debian 12.
