Unauthenticated RCE in JoomShaper SP LMS (com_splms) via Insecure Cookie Deserialization

IdentifiersCVE-2026-48909CWE-502

CVE-2026-48909 affects JoomShaper SP LMS (com_splms) versions prior to 4.1.4. The component deserializes user-controlled cookie data without proper validation or integrity protection. Because attacker-supplied serialized data from a cookie is processed by the application, an unauthenticated remote attacker can trigger insecure deserialization and achieve arbitrary code execution on the server, subject to the presence of a usable exploitation path in the target environment.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation results in unauthenticated remote code execution in the context of the web application/server process. This can allow an attacker to fully compromise the affected Joomla application, access or modify application data, deploy webshells or other malware, pivot further within the environment, and potentially take control of the underlying server depending on process privileges and local hardening.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, reduce exposure by disabling or uninstalling the SP LMS component until it can be upgraded, restricting public access to the affected application where feasible, and monitoring for suspicious requests or anomalous cookie values targeting the component. Additional hardening of the PHP/Joomla environment may reduce post-exploitation impact, but it does not remove the underlying vulnerability.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade JoomShaper SP LMS (com_splms) to version 4.1.4 or later, which addresses the unsafe deserialization issue. Validate that all deployed instances, including staging and secondary Joomla environments, are updated and that vulnerable component files are no longer present.
