Use-after-free in WebKit web content processing

IdentifiersCVE-2026-43742CWE-416

CVE-2026-43742 is a use-after-free vulnerability in WebKit affecting Safari 26.5.2 prior versions, iOS 26.5.2 prior versions, iPadOS 26.5.2 prior versions, and macOS Tahoe 26.5.2 prior versions. Apple states the issue was addressed with improved memory management. When WebKit processes maliciously crafted web content, stale memory may be accessed after free, resulting in instability and an unexpected process crash.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation may cause the targeted WebKit content process or related browser process to crash while processing attacker-controlled web content. Based on the provided information, the documented impact is denial of service via unexpected process termination; no confirmed code-execution or information-disclosure impact is stated for this CVE in the supplied content.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patches can be applied, reduce exposure to untrusted web content, restrict browsing from affected devices, and prefer running the latest supported OS/browser builds. Enterprise controls such as web filtering and limiting access to untrusted sites may reduce exploit opportunities, but no vendor-specific workaround other than updating is provided in the supplied content.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Apple's fixes by upgrading to Safari 26.5.2, iOS 26.5.2, iPadOS 26.5.2, and macOS Tahoe 26.5.2 or later. Apple indicates the vulnerability was remediated through improved memory management in WebKit.
