CVE-2020-2758 is a use-after-free vulnerability in Oracle VM VirtualBox Core, specifically in handling of the VirtualBox Video Acceleration (VBVA) feature reachable through the Host-Guest Shared Memory Interface (HGSMI). A guest can trigger creation of a surface handle that references an existing VBoxVHWASurfaceBase object, including the VGA surface, and that pointer is stored in mSurfHandleTable. Subsequent guest-triggerable display resize operations can free and replace the underlying display surface, leaving a stale pointer in the handle table. Later VBVA operations, including paths such as SURF_UNLOCK and overlay update handling, can dereference the freed VBoxVHWASurfaceBase object. The issue affects supported versions prior to 5.2.40, prior to 6.0.20, and prior to 6.1.6.
