CVE-2026-31560 is a Linux kernel vulnerability in the DesignWare SPI DMA driver (spi: spi-dw-dma). When an error occurs while waiting for a transaction to finish, the error logging path may assume that a current SPI message exists. If no current message is present, the code can dereference an invalid or NULL message-related pointer while printing the error log, causing the kernel to crash. The upstream fix changes the logging path to use the device reference from struct spi_controller (ctlr) instead of relying on a current message being available.
