CVE-2026-50545 affects Fission, a Kubernetes-native serverless framework, in versions prior to 1.24.0. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation of user-supplied Environment.spec.runtime.podSpec and spec.builder.podSpec passthrough fields. During pod generation, Fission's MergePodSpec logic propagated unsafe or dangerous PodSpec fields into the resulting runtime and builder pods. As a result, an attacker able to create or update Fission Environment resources could inject privileged Kubernetes pod configuration into generated pods. The advisory states this included an update-webhook bypass and unsafe propagation of fields that should not have been accepted, enabling escalation from Fission Environment control to privileged pod execution and potential node escape.
