ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an unauthorized attacker to perform privileged administrative operations in the affected PavilionX deployment. Reported impacts include unauthorized user management, role management, and other administrative actions. The published CVSS information indicates network-based exploitation with no privileges and no user interaction required, with potential for high confidentiality impact and limited integrity and availability impact.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate upgrade is not possible, minimize exposure of affected control system devices and ensure they are not directly accessible from the internet. Place control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls and isolate them from business networks. Where remote access is required, use secure remote-access solutions such as VPNs and keep those VPNs fully updated. Apply defense-in-depth measures and perform impact analysis and risk assessment before deploying changes in ICS environments.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk Analytics PavilionX to version 7.01 or later. Refer to Rockwell Automation advisory SD1777 for vendor-specific remediation guidance.
