CVE-2023-41064 is a buffer overflow vulnerability in Apple’s ImageIO component affecting iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The flaw is triggered when the operating system processes a maliciously crafted image, leading to memory corruption due to improper bounds handling during image parsing. Apple stated the issue was addressed through improved memory handling. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability was reported by The Citizen Lab at The University of Toronto’s Munk School, and Apple indicated it may have been exploited in the wild. Public reporting also links the issue to the BLASTPASS exploit chain, where it was paired with CVE-2023-41061 in targeted zero-click attacks delivering Pegasus spyware.
