CVE-2026-42154 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Prometheus affecting the remote read endpoint at /api/v1/read. In vulnerable versions prior to 3.5.3 and 3.11.3, Prometheus does not validate the declared decoded length in a snappy-compressed request body before allocating memory. An attacker can submit a small crafted snappy payload that advertises an excessively large decoded size, causing Prometheus to perform very large heap allocations during request processing. Repeated or concurrent exploitation can exhaust available memory and terminate the Prometheus process.
